CRIMES

There are five classes of crimes under Imperial law.

CLASS I
Some of the most serious crimes, such as High Treason or Possession of a Cloaking Device. Minimum punishment is life in prison, but usually these crimes merit death.

CLASS II
Serious crimes such as Murder or Smuggling. Minimum punishment is twenty years in prison. Multiple Class II violations sometimes get the death penalty.

CLASS III
Moderate crimes such as Assault With Intent to Injure or Theft. Minimum punishment is five years in prison.

CLASS IV
Minor crimes such as Drug Use or Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Sometimes a short prison sentence is assigned; more often, a fine of at least 2000 credits is assessed.

CLASS V
Trivial crimes such as Public Intoxication or Traffic Violation. The minimum punishment is a 500-credit fine.

All the above punishments are for humans not working with the Rebellion. If there is suspicion of Rebel sympathies, or if the accused is an alien of any kind, the punishments tend to be harsher.
