FORCE

The Force is not a large part of this game. The Jedi are simply not around; nearly all of them have been wiped out by Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader. It is possible that some people who are receptive to the Force are within the Brak Sector, and perhaps there are even those with very minor Jedi ability, but neither one is at all common.

Most normal people in the Sector do not believe in the Force or don't consider the issue at all; especially, nearly all criminal types such as bounty hunters, crimelords, and smugglers have no belief in the Force (consider Han Solo's outlook at the start of Star Wars: A New Hope).

The same goes for almost everyone in the Empire and corporations like the LMC, especially military troops. Even the highest commanders of the Empire put little stock in such legends.

Members of the Rebel Alliance, on the other hand, often do believe in the Force and that it is on their side; after the dramatic destruction of the Death Star at Yavin, it's difficult to believe otherwise. Most Rebels are not attuned to the Force, though; they just have an unproven belief that it exists.

Here's how the Force works in the game for most people:

* Force-sensitivity: All players start the game as non-Force-sensitive. They may or may not believe in the Force, but they do not have any sort of 'connection' to the Force. If you have a special character concept that requires Force-sensitivity, chat with one of the Wizards before entering CharGen. You will almost certainly have to write up a special application to start the game Force-sensitive. If for some reason it is appropiate that your character should become Force-sensitive during the course of the game, you can spend 20 character points and get the permission of a Wizard to do so.

* Force points: All players start the game with 1 Force point. Force-sensitives get a bonus Force point (the main reason that we restrict Force-sensitives). A Force point can be spent to double your stats for a short period of time with the 'force' command (see +help force). However, unless your character is Force-sensitive, he doesn't know that he is using the Force. He just thinks he suddenly got incredible strength or luck from adrenaline or "the heat of the moment." Only use this power in very special cases in front of a judge - you won't get the point back otherwise.

* Jedi: There may or may not be a few Jedi in Brak sector, but they are very rare. They are hand-selected by the Wizards, although a Force-sensitive character could place himself in contention for Jedi powers by roleplaying very well and very strictly in keeping with the tenets of the Jedi.

Most Jedi powers are intended to be roleplayed, but a few are coded. Should you be fortunate (or unfortunate) enough to be present for a use of a Jedi power in play, ask the Jedi what to do; all Jedi are instructed in the IC and OOC use of a Force power before they receive it. However, if you think a Jedi is not using the power correctly, the dispute can be settled by a judge.

Lightsabers are also coded, but they are highly difficult to acquire, and attacking with one without a good Lightsaber skill or the 'Lightsaber Combat' Jedi power could easily result in self-injury.

This information is also available in-game via the "news force" command.
