TIME

Timekeeping in the Star Wars universe is slightly different from our Earth calendar. The standard time and date system used across the galaxy is Coruscant Time, named after the capital world of the Empire.

There are 60 standard seconds in a standard minute, and 60 standard minutes in a standard hour, and 24 standard hours in a standard day. However, individual worlds may have different numbers of standard hours in a day.

There are 368 standard days in a standard year. This is broken up into ten months, each composed of seven weeks of five days each (35 days in a month). There are also three five-day festivals, and three single-day holidays.

Dating is marked from the year of the crowning of President Palpatine as Emperor, in 0 Imperial Era (IE). Pre-Imperial days are denoted by a negative sign; for instance, -14 IE refers to 14 years before Palpatine's crowning.

Official dates are typically abbreviated in the form 'year:month:day.' For instance, 17:04:25 refers to the twenty-fifth day of the fourth month of the 17th year since the crowning of the Emperor. In ordinary conversation, people usually would say, "the twenty-fifth of fourthmonth in 17."

* The Festival of Life (after the third month)
This week-long festival celebrates the gift of life.

* Remembrance Day (after the fourth month)
A day of remembrance of all those who have fallen in the defense of the Empire.

* The Festival of Stars (after the sixth month)
This festival celebrates the ability to travel among the stars. Many people take interstellar vacations during this week.

* Emperor Day (after the eighth month)
A day of a celebration for the great Emperor, who has brought peace and order to the galaxy once more.

* The Festival of Yule (after the ninth month)
This festival is a celebration which has carried down through the millenia, and originated from the human core worlds. It is a week of parties, family times, and gift-giving.

* New Year's Day (after the tenth month)
A day of remembrance of the year past, and a celebration of the year to come.
